What is an SPC outlook?
An SPC outlook is a severe-weather risk forecast from the Storm Prediction Center.
What it tells you
- It shows broader areas where thunderstorms or severe storms may be possible.
- It is a planning and awareness tool, not a report of what is happening at the site right now.
- Common categories include Thunderstorm Risk, Marginal Risk, Slight Risk, Enhanced Risk, Moderate Risk, and High Risk.
- The dashboard still relies on live radar, lightning, NWS alerts, and local conditions for current site safety decisions.
SPC outlooks do not start a lightning HOLD or suspend activities by themselves.
They help explain the broader thunderstorm/severe-weather risk environment around the site.
