Selected question: How do you detect lightning?

How lightning is detected

Lightning is detected from the weather system's configured lightning sources. The primary local source is the Tempest station when available. The system checks whether detected lightning is close enough to the monitored site to matter.

How the system decides

  • The system uses the configured lightning source shown on the dashboard for the current decision.
  • Tempest lightning is treated as the primary local lightning source when available.
  • Fallback/coverage lightning data may be used when configured and when the primary source is not available.
  • The system checks whether lightning is within the monitored 10-mile safety radius.
  • Only lightning data that is fresh enough for safety decisions should be used for HOLD decisions.
  • If qualifying lightning is detected, the HOLD and 30-minute timer rules are applied automatically.
  • This system is a safety aid; staff or event leadership still makes the final decision.

Current lightning status

  • Current lightning source: tempest.
  • Lightning HOLD active right now: no.
The lightning system is used as a safety aid. It supports the decision, but it does not replace staff, event leadership, or official safety procedures.
